Soap Creek Saloon Calendar (May 1974) Kerry Awn Art. This is the third in a series of Soap Creek calendars produced by iconic Austin print artist Kerry Awn. It’s May ‘74, and summer’s just around the corner. After Kerry’s 1st poster these calendars became collectors items. You could find these in dorm room and apartments all over Austin. Everyone in Austin soon had to have one each month. The calendars were a monthly love affair for over 11 years.
This is a great piece of Austin memorabilia from it’s musical golden years. The piece combines great art with ’70’s local musical acts and an iconic venue. Artists performing that month included the Marcia Ball, The Misery Bros, Mother of Pearl, Doug Sahm, Uranium Savages, Paul Ray & The Cobras, Cotton Wood, Slappy Gilstrap, Alvin Crow, Augie Meyers, Starcrost, Bogus Joe, Gypsee Eyes, Zapatista and Bold Marauder.
